Roger Capron "Les Herbiers" Coffee Table, Vallauris, France, 1960s
A celebrated design by French ceramicist Roger Capron, the Les Herbiers coffee table captures the poetic beauty of the natural world through clay and craftsmanship. Produced in Vallauris during the 1960s, the circular top is composed of individually fired ceramic tiles, each impressed with botanical specimens collected from the surrounding Provençal landscape. The resulting composition evokes a fossilised herbarium, with every tile carrying its own unique imprint.
Set within a sculptural stained timber frame, the table combines Capron's signature ceramic artistry with a bold architectural form. The concentric arrangement of leaves and grasses creates a richly textured surface, making this one of the designer's most recognisable and collectible works.
