French Art Deco Sideboard, France, c.1940
A beautifully proportioned French sideboard inspired by the elegant neoclassical furniture of André Arbus, whose work defined a more restrained and architectural interpretation of Art Deco.
Crafted in richly figured veneers, the facade is composed of diamond-matched panels framed by slender pilasters crowned with patinated brass finials and the coolest circular brass keys. Faceted tapering legs and a finely detailed apron lend the cabinet a sense of lightness, while the softly rounded ends temper its strong geometric form.
Generous internal storage makes it equally suited as a dining sideboard, drinks cabinet or statement media console, a timeless example of French cabinetmaking that reflects the quiet luxury and exceptional craftsmanship associated with the Arbus school.
