Charles Dudouyt Medium Carved Oak Sideboard, France c.1950s

Arriving early November

A beautifully detailed French oak buffet attributed to Charles Dudouyt, dating to the 1940s. The medium-scale cabinet features three doors with a wonderfully graphic arrangement of hand-carved geometric motifs — concentric circular medallions to either side and a central diamond panel — with a single drawer above.

Crafted in richly grained oak, the deep relief carving gives the façade a strong sculptural quality, while the original metal hardware and warm aged patina retain the character of the piece. The combination of circular and angular carving is particularly characteristic of Dudouyt and his workshop, whose furniture brought together French vernacular craftsmanship with a distinctly modern, architectural sensibility.

A great mid-sized example: more substantial than the petite buffet, without the scale of the larger Dudouyt sideboards.
