French Timber & Woven Rush Armchair, c.1940–1960
A characterful French armchair combining a dark-stained timber frame with a beautifully woven natural rush seat and backrest. French, mid-20th century. Attributed origin to Charles Dudouyt and Charlotte Perriand.
The chair is defined by its elongated cylindrical armrests, turned timber supports and distinctive acorn-shaped finials. The handwoven backrest features a geometric pattern, bringing an unexpected decorative element to an otherwise simple, architectural form. The design has a strong modernist sensibility, with its generous proportions, exposed construction and contrast of natural materials.
A wonderfully sculptural piece, equally suited to a living room, bedroom or quiet corner. Good vintage condition with age-related wear.
